The Universal Credit is a benefit system launched by the UK government in 2018 in order to help people in need with their living costs. It is offered once or twice monthly for some in Scotland.
Eventually, it will replace the ‘inherited’ benefits below by migrating existing applicants to Universal Credit:
At present, if you receive any of these benefits you will continue to receive payments as normal. Your local Jobcentre Plus or Tax Credits Office will inform you when your benefit will be replaced by Universal Credit.
New claimants are now applying directly for Universal Credit rather than the previous individual benefits.
